Britain is currently in the midst of a massive housing shortage (Barker Review, December 2006), due to the current social and economic breakdown. People are living longer, the birthrate is now at record levels, more young people are going to university and more individuals are settling in the UK. These are just some of the driving factors that have seen the British population increase to record levels with almost 61 million individuals living in the UK, (Source:  Office for National Statistics, 21 August 2008).
